Priors leading to well-behaved Coulomb and Riesz gases versus zeroth-order phase transitions – a potential-theoretic characterization

چکیده

We give a potential-theoretic characterization of measures μ0 which have the property that Coulomb gas, defined with respect to prior μ0, is “well-behaved” and similarly for more general Riesz gases. This means laws empirical corresponding random point process satisfy Large Deviation Principle rate functional depends continuously on temperature, in sense Gamma-convergence. Equivalently, there no zeroth-order phase transition at zero mean field regime. shown be case Hausdorff measure compact Lipschitz hypersurface, as well Lesbesgue bounded domain. also provide constructions priors absolutely continuous Lebesgue smoothly domain, such 2d exhibits transition. based relations Ullman’s criterion theory orthogonal polynomials Bernstein-Markov inequalities.

Effective potential and first-order phase transitions: Beyond leading order.

Scenarios for electroweak baryogenesis require an understanding of the effective potential at finite temperature near a first-order electroweak phase transition. Working in Landau gauge, we present a calculation of the dominant two-loop corrections to the ring-improved one-loop potential in the formal limit g 4 ≪ λ ≪ g 2 , where λ is the Higgs self-coupling and g is the electroweak coupling. Th...

Metastability of Asymptotically Well-Behaved Potential Games

One of the main criticisms to game theory concerns the assumption of full rationality. Logit dynamics is a decentralized algorithm in which a level of irrationality (a.k.a. “noise”) is introduced in players’ behavior. In this context, the solution concept of interest becomes the logit equilibrium, as opposed to Nash equilibria. Logit equilibria are distributions over strategy profiles that poss...

Phase transitions in driven lattice gases.

We have studied nonequilibrium lattice gases whose particles are driven by a field. The lattice is either a half-occupied square lattice or else the union of two energetically uncoupled ones. Monte Carlo simulations of the latter, which is always crossed by a dissipative particle current, show a tricritical point and a continuum of Ising-like critical points as the field is decreased, in additi...

Second Order Phase Transitions

summing the Boltzmann factor over all spin configurations {si}. The enumeration of all configurations cannot be done for d ≥ 3, and although possible in d = 2 is extremely hard there as well (a problem solved by Onsager). We will use an approximate solution technique known as mean field theory. Last term we solved the problem of noninteracting spins in a magnetic field described by the Hamilton...

Well-behaved principles alternative to bounded induction

We introduce some Π1–expressible combinatorial principles which may be treated as axioms for some bounded arithmetic theories. The principles, denoted Sk(Σn, length log k) and Sk(Σn, depth log k) (where ‘Sk’ stands for ‘Skolem’), are related to the consistency of Σn–induction: for instance, they provide models for Σn–induction. However, the consistency is expressed indirectly, via the existence...
